My Scribblings from the WBKA meeting – 7th March 2020.

The meetings were, once again, held at the Plas Dolguog Hotel, Machynlleth, 29 people were in attendance for the general and council meetings, which commenced at 11.00.am.

Prior to the above meetings, there was a brief meeting of the “events” team, where Jill wheeler updated us (6 members) on the Layout, manning, and duties for this year’s convention at Builth on 28th March 2020.

The general meeting was opened by John Bowles (JB) (outgoing Chair) with the usual apologies etc. which accounted for the first four items on the agenda.

Items 5. Covered the Annual Report produced by David Kennedy.
Main items covered the membership numbers, increases/Decreases etc.
Some discussion followed regarding the International Meeting of Young Beekeepers (IMYB)
Which you may recall, I reported on briefly in my scribblings of the last meeting.

JB. Pointed out that the WBKA now have people in place to take this project forward.

Item 6. involved the financial report from Graham Wheeler.
It was pointed out that there was a slight increase in insurance due to the additional cover for individual association officers.
The freezing of capitation for an individual association was agreed.

I can obtain and supply copies of items Five & Six if any member is interested.

Item 7. Elections.
Linda Christy was appointed as the chairperson.
L.C. is in charge of the apiaries at the Botanical Gardens of Wales at Llanarthny, Carmarthenshire.
Jill Wheeler re-elected as Vic-chair.
Graham Wheeler re-elected as treasurer.
Jenny Shaw is standing down as president to take up the role of Secretary.
J.S. Proposed that the role of president be should be passed on the “outgoing” chair, In this case, John Bowles.
J.S. Further proposed that a constitutional change be made, as at present, the president may not serve as a trustee, which J.B. is.
J.B. Added that in these changing times were a number of items contained in the constitution that needed looking at, but this was a matter for the next AGM. (It would seem that where ECBKA lead the WBKA follows, amazing what a discrete word in the right ear can accomplish)
Fred Ecton is to remain Vice President.

Peter Elvis Is to continue duties as a trustee, but as an independent delegate (not sure if there is a contradiction there) and no longer as a delegate for South Clwyd BKA.

Council meeting.
The closing of the General Meeting saw the commencement of the Council meeting.
As this meeting consisted mainly of event plans and updates etc. all of which are now cancelled, I see little point in reporting on them.

I will just add that there is a vacancy for the events secretary.
